  9. Welcome to ModemNews, a new magazine dedicated to all the BBS users
  10. around our Nation and Canada.  ModemNews can only be successful if
  11. you, the readers, make contributions to the cause!  Keep in mind that
  12. ModemNews magazine is wholly supported by YOUR efforts and
  13. contibutions.  More on that later......

  17.                        Hardware requirements:
  18.  
  19. ModemNews can be run on any IBM or true compatible with a color 
  20. monitor, (or monochrome with a simulation program).  Make sure that 
  21. Ansi.sys is in your config.sys file, and the DOS commands MORE and
  22. TYPE are in your path.  ModemNews has been tested with DOS versions 
  23. 2.11 through 4.01.

  27. UnZIP your copy of ModemNews Magazine into an empty directory or onto 
  28. a clean floppy disk.  Alternately, if you have received the .EXE file 
  29. of our magazine just type the name of the file (usually MNEWSxx.EXE), 
  30. and LHARC will do the rest for you.  In either case make sure there is 
  31. adequate room on your drive or diskette.  Exclusive of the original 
  32. Archived file, ModemNews usually runs a hefty 225-250K per issue.

  39.  Make sure that all the ModemNews files are in the same sub-directory.

  46.       Now, once you are set up and comfortable, just type

  56.          Contributions are always welcome to ModemNews
  57.                  in the following categories

  60. Humor:         Anything!  Puzzles, games, jokes, you name it!  Because
  61.                of space limitations, contributions here will be
  62.                entered on a juried basis.  Only the best will end up
  63.                in our column.
  64.  
  65. Stories:       Feel a bit like Stevenson or Thoreau?  Got that
  66.    &           'special' writers touch?  Send us your very best works,
  67.  Poems         and see yourself published in a Nationwide magazine.
  68.  
  69. Letters:       Letters to the editor will be accepted from any reader,
  70.                and if space permits, letters will be answered.
  71.  
  72. Recipes:       Recipes will be gladly accepted by this food-aholic!
  73.                All ingredients should be listed, along with exact
  74.                directions for mixing and cooking instructions.  Your
  75.                name and BBS will also be listed.
  76.  
  77. Announcements: Community announcements will be placed here.  Weddings,
  78.                births, Bar Mitzvahs, anything you'd like the ModemNews
  79.                community to know about.  Fill us in!
  80.  
  81. News & Views:  Anything you think is news, and should be covered
  82.                by ModemNews we will consider publishing.
  83.  
  84. Messages:      If you come across a message thread on your favorite
  85.                BBS, and you think we should all be able to see it,
  86.                just capture it and send it our way.  We're always
  87.                looking for the unusual and interesting.
  88.  
  89. Fillers:       Anything that has not been covered above will be
  90.                considered for inclusion in the next issue of
  91.                ModemNews.  Take a chance and send it our way!

  95.         Make sure your submissions have been spell and grammer 
  96.    checked, in pure ASCII text and set in lines no longer than 72 
  97.    columns, and you're on your way!

  101.         If you have anything you'd like to contribute to us here at 
  102.    ModemNews Magazine just upload it to your nearest ModemNews 
  103.    NewsStand and leave a message asking the sysop to send it to us!
